Some two thousand years ago, my Master sat with His friends and partook of the Hebrew Passover Ceremony. As they broke the unleavened bread, Jesus taught them how He was the fulfillment of that Old Testament tradition: HE was the perfect lamb of God who would be broken for them. Thus He said “This [bread] is My body, given for you…” (Luke 22:19). He then took the cup of juice squeezed from the grapes, and said that HE was the perfect lamb of God, whose blood was to be shed for them. Thus He said:

For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Matthew 26:28

Without His blood we have no remission of sins (1 Peter 1:18-19). Thankfully He said “this is MY blood.” He offered the only blood that COULD take away our sins.

Without a New Covenant, our sins could not be removed, because the Law of the Old Testament could not take away sins (Hebrews 10:1-4). Thankfully He said “this is My blood OF THE NEW TESTAMENT.” He offered a sacrifice that would institute a New Covenant between man and God, and He nailed the Old Covenant to the cross (Colossians 2:14).

Without His willingness to be killed on our behalf, we would die in our sins (Hebrews 9:22). Thankfully He said “this is My blood of the New Testament, which is SHED FOR MANY.”

The power of His blood is great: It is the only power strong enough to save us from sin, the only power righteous enough to restore us to God, and the only power perfect enough to replace God’s need to punish US for OUR sins.

Do you have His blood working in you?
