happysad “How ya doin?”

Three little words is all it takes sometimes to turn a quiet, contemplative moment into three hours of venting frustration and shouting to the rooftops about this problem or that.

We all have problems, and usually they are person-specific. As Christians we have the benefit of belonging to a support group that helps us work through our issues and grow as children of God.

This week we’re looking at the simple question “How ya doin?”

Maybe you’re not feeling very useful right now. Maybe you feel all alone. Maybe you feel like every day is bad and there’s no end to the struggles in sight. Maybe you feel abandoned by God or maybe you just feel like running away.

Feelings like that happen to us all. There’s little we can do to avoid having those negative thoughts pop in our brain. What we can do is keep the right state of mind, have a little perspective and a healthy dose of trusting in God and we can limit the amount of time we dwell on such negativity.

So…how ya doin?

“I feel helpless.”

Sometimes there are obstacles too big to carry. We take one crack at them and we say “I can’t.” There’s nothing wrong with that. When it becomes wrong is when we forget to let those around us help us carry that load. When we push others away, try (and fail) on our own, over and over, and then get all down on ourselves and say we’re “helpless.”

But we’re not “helpless” we’re just “without help at the moment.” The good thing about our Christian family is “help is only a moment away.”

Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
For every man shall bear his own burden.

Galatians 6:2-5

There are actually two things being discussed here. The first are the kinds of burdens that are too heavy to carry alone. Those burdens are to be shared by brethren in Christ, thus fulfilling the Law of Christ (which is to love one another as Christ loved us). On the other hand there are burdens that we can carry alone (with the help of Christ); Paul says we should bear those burdens and not ourselves become a burden to others.

It’s up to us to step up to the plate and face our challenges, but if those obstacles become too great, it’s up to us to have the humility to seek out help from our family in Christ.

Either way, we should never feel helpless. Help is always a request away!

Think about it,
have a great day
