happysad “How ya doin?”

Three little words is all it takes sometimes to turn a quiet, contemplative moment into three hours of venting frustration and shouting to the rooftops about this problem or that.

We all have problems, and usually they are person-specific. As Christians we have the benefit of belonging to a support group that helps us work through our issues and grow as children of God.

This week we’re looking at the simple question “How ya doin?”

Maybe you’re not feeling very useful right now. Maybe you feel all alone. Maybe you feel like every day is bad and there’s no end to the struggles in sight. Maybe you feel abandoned by God or maybe you just feel like running away.

Feelings like that happen to us all. There’s little we can do to avoid having those negative thoughts pop in our brain. What we can do is keep the right state of mind, have a little perspective and a healthy dose of trusting in God and we can limit the amount of time we dwell on such negativity.

So…how ya doin?

“I feel abandoned.”

One of the Devil’s worst lies is often told at our darkest hour. We hit rock bottom, we cry out for help and he–Satan–whispers in our ear “He’s not listening. He doesn’t care.” And despite all the verses we have read and all the sermons we’ve heard that tell us just the opposite, sometimes we forget and we need to be reminded once more that God is “there” and hasn’t forgotten about us.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.

Psalm 46:1-3

The solid ground may rumble, seas may rise and storms may rage but God is our refuge. If we are faithful to Him, He will be faithful to us.

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Hebrews 13:5

Remember that even heroes of the faith wonder aloud before coming to their senses…

My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?
For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.

Psalm 22:1, 24

God will be there for you if you turn to Him and seek His counsel. Talk to Him in prayer; let Him talk to you in His Word. Gain strength to endure and know that you are not, nor have you been, abandoned.

Think about it,
have a great day
