I see you. I know who you are.

You’re that one who has been thinking about visiting but you just can’t seem to break down and do it. You pull in the drive way and you almost stop, but instead you spin around and hit the road again.

It’s time to park the car and come in. What’s the holdup?

“WELL I DON’T WANT A CHURCH THAT IS JUDGMENTAL”

Is that the problem? You think we’re judgmental? Let me tell you something: The church of Christ is perfect. But the men and women who make up that spiritual body are not. From the very beginning of the Christian movement, there have been people who were judgmental of those, both within and without Christ’s church. In the 2,000 years since then, there are still people like that.

Now, just because there’s a problem, and just because the problem is recurring, doesn’t mean the problem is excused. It could be that some Christian at some time looked his or her nose down on you because you were different, or because they thought they were better than you, etc. The fact is, Christians aren’t better than anyone. We’re better off because we are saved in Christ and on the way to Heaven someday, but we are not better. We are no one’s superiors. In fact Jesus commands us to be servants!

Any person who is judgmental toward another will himself face judgment and will have to give account of his cruel attitude before the One True Judge, Jesus Christ.

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

2 Corinthians 5:10

We are not to judge. God however is and does. As God’s people it is our responsibility to follow His lead and recognize what is right or wrong. It is also our responsibility as the people of God to help those who are wrong (by God’s reckoning) to see that they are wrong and to help them get right. Wouldn’t you like to be told if you were driving in the wrong direction? Would you yell out “don’t judge me!” if someone stopped you on the interstate to say “You’re driving on the wrong side of the road!”? Of course not. You’d be grateful.

We’re not judgmental. But we are a people very aware of the reality of coming judgment…

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

2 Corinthians 5:10-11

We don’t want anyone to go to Hell, so we warn everyone of the danger of sin, recognizing our own sins and–first and foremost–turning them over to Christ. You can turn your sins over to Christ and have them washed away (Acts 22:16), and then you can be ready for judgment day and you can join us in warning others of its approaching hour.

Think about it,
have a great day!
