driving homeFriday is here and if you’re enjoying your Spring Break that means for many of you, today is the day to head home. There’s always mixed emotions that accompany a drive home. On the one hand there’s a feeling of anticipation. No matter how nice the bed was on your vacation, nothing beats your bed and your pillow. There’s a feeling of relief that comes when you finally put your week’s stay behind you and the traffic starts to thin out. You’re headed home and you can finally exhale.

There’s the feeling of panic that comes because you forgot your laptop in the hotel.

There’s a feeling of relief (again) that comes when you finally put your week’s stay behind you (again) and the traffic starts to thin out. You’re headed home (again) and you can finally exhale. And though you leave behind all the things you enjoyed on your brief stay, you also get to leave behind all the frustrations that come with being somewhere that isn’t your home.

The people don’t know you; you’re just a nameless face in the crowd.

And no matter how much you’re enjoying yourself, it’s not the same as being home.

I don’t even need a segue here; listen to Jesus:

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 14:1-6

This world is not your home. It’s just a place where you are briefly staying.

But you’re heading home, if you’re a child of God.

Right now the people don’t know you (1 John 3:1), you’re just lost in the shuffle of life. But God knows your name; you belong to Him (Matthew 10:30).

This life is just a brief time away from eternal bliss. After this, you head home.

Have a great day!
