choo-front-preHappy Valentines Day to you all, or as my son Caleb likes to say “Happy Valumtimes.” It’s cute that he doesn’t yet understand how important this holiday is. Because it is important. Very important. So saith the ladies.

For the past few days we’ve been looking at various examples of God’s love for us. We’ve seen it by the words written about Him and by the actions He took: it is clear that He loves us.

Now it is our turn.

A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

John 13:34

All of Jesus’ love is wasted if we do not reciprocate it to others. The love that motivated His leaving Heaven for earth is wasted if we do not, in turn, seek out those to whom we can go and provide help.

But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.

Luke 10:33-35

The love that motivated His dying on the cross is wasted if we do not, in turn, give our lives as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1), and be willing to die for those we love.

This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

John 15:12-13

The love that motivated His resurrection and promised return to take us to Heaven is wasted if we do not, in turn, live a life that is ready and waiting for His eventual return.

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18

Don’t make worthless His labor of love, in coming, dying, and promising to come again for you. Live a life of love and fulfill the example of Christ. Don’t be afraid to tell someone you love them…and then show it. That’s what He did, and that’s what He calls us to do!

Have a great Valentine’s Day!
