It amazes me that people think they can stay in God’s favor while ceasing to stay loving.

Now I don’t think many people will consciously decide to wake up some morning and say to themselves “I think today I’ll love less.” Yet, it sure seems like they do sometimes, doesn’t it?

We are not given the luxury of deciding when and how we will show God-like love for those around us. Hard as it may be, from time to time, we are commanded to be loving all the time. The reason? Listen to Peter…

Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

1 Peter 1:22

Our souls have been cleansed from sin because of God’s sacrifice in the form of Christ. Because of His great love, we have a new life. The natural result of that is supposed to be a readiness to love as He loved. It should be a love “unfeigned” (not hypocritical). It should be a love that is pure (not blemished by loving some and not loving others). It should be a love that is “fervent” (intense).

Can we say we love like we are supposed to? Is our love genuine or only smile-deep? Is our love dependent on the person or open to all? Is our love easily worn down or does it keep going and going?

Christ would have us to love like He loves. How does He love? He “stays loving.”

We should see that we do likewise!
