We’re not having Bible class tonight because–as I type–the roads are slowly being covered in ice. By nightfall the area will be draped in a blanket of white.

We can’t change the weather, but we can change our attitudes toward it.

It’s easy to get frustrated when its gloomy or cold out. It’s easy to let a rainy day depress us. But the days are what they are, and ultimately it is God who is Master of the Universe. Don’t fret or frown, just thank God for the day you have.

On the subject of weather, here’s how it works:

Depending on how cold it is, precipitation will occur in one of four ways.

Rain occurs when precipitation is above freezing, from the lower to the upper atmosphere.

Freezing rain occurs when the ground is below freezing but the air above is not. When the rain hits, it freezes on the ground.

Sleet occurs when the ground is frozen and the lower atmosphere is as well. It rains ice and it’s not a pretty sight.

Wonderful snow, on the other hand, is the rare (in Arkansas) occurrence when everything below freezing. The precipitation crystallizes and falls like little flakes of happiness.

Depending on how warm or how cold it is, you’re either going to have a pretty scenic picture or a dreary rainy day.

So it is with your attitude: Depending on how warm or how cold a person you are, you can affect the moods of others. While we may want it cold outside so we can enjoy snow, people around us don’t want the cold shoulder.

Let’s be warm to others and let them see the Son shining through us!
