The Apostle Paul wrote, in his Ephesian letter, about the honor he felt in being tasked with preaching the Gospel…
Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:

Paul calls the preaching of the Gospel message the “unsearchable riches” of Christ, because the depth of the greatness of that message can never be fully explored. It has been preached for 2,000 years and will continue to be preached for as long as the world stands. If it stands for another 10,000 years the amount of discussion to be had about the salvation of Jesus will still only have scratched the surface.
The Apostle also calls that message a “mystery” because it did not begin with Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem. It began before the creation of the world in fact. From the beginning God worked His Will in order to bring His Son into existence at just the right time. That long and intricite plan is called in the above text the “manifold wisdom” of God. Literally, the phrase means “the multi-colored wisdom…” Like a rainbow that shows the full spectrum of colors, the plan of God to prepare the world for the Messiah is a rich and engrossing narrative, with a variety of diverse elements, all contained in the pages of the Old Testament. It is truly a tale as old as time itself, belonging to the “eternal” planning of God in Christ.
