Yesterday we noted how many in our town (and surrounding towns) have been battling terrible illness.

The flu is spreading like wildfire around these parts and it’s knocked many people flat on their backs.

But there is another illness we need to be mindful of.

It’s a sickness that has kept our auditorium sadly sparse the past several weeks, with more seats empty than filled. And it’s not the flu. It is the sickness of apathy, of misplaced priority and of lovelessness. Now someone will say “Oh but I do love Jesus!” and they may even believe their words…but actions speak louder.

When you’d never be late for work…When you’d never disappoint a date…When you’d never miss a chance to mingle…but any little excuse is enough to pass on worship, you can say all day long that you love God, but actions speak louder. And those who can worship but who allow the business of life and the pleasure of the world keep them from worshiping, well…your actions reveal a terrible illness, one which can only be mended by a rekindling of love for Christ.

Right now our town is suffering with a bodily ailment, but fear not what kills the body…

Fear what kills the soul (Matthew 10:28).
