My Master once told a story about a woman who had ten pieces of silver. As sometimes happens, one of the coins went missing.

Those who have a lot of money might scoff and say “it’s only one coin; you still have nine others…” but this woman clearly values just one coin, therefore she is likely not a woman with much money. To her, every possible coin is important, so she searches until she finds it…

Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?
And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost.
Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

Luke 15:8-10

Our Homecoming / Friends and Family Day is this Sunday. Our goal is for a full house; that means about 250 people. Some congregations might think that’s a small goal; to them, 250 is their regular attendance or even much lower. But we are a small-but-growing church family here at Guy. We average almost 100 every week (we averaged about 80 last year and about 60 the year before that), so to us every person we have in attendance is important.

Some congregations might see three or four families go on vacation and miss a service and no one notice because they have so many people to go around. Not at Guy; at Guy we can look around and know every person and where every person usually sits. It feels different when everyone isn’t there; the singing is off, the mood is off. It’s just different.

I think if every person who claims to regularly worship at Guy all came at the same time we’d have 130 in attendance. If everyone tried to find ONE PERSON they could bring to worship with them, we’d have 260 and that’d be a full house and then some. It can be done, but first we need OUR members to be there. We need OUR members–each important individual–to make sure they attend, so that our visitors can see just how strong and growing our church family really is.

Don’t be that one coin that slipped through the cracks. And if you are, know that we’re looking for you and want to find you and bring you back to us!

Think about it,
Have a great day!
