Every now and then someone will come to my door and invite me to come visit “their” church. Well what is “your” church, I always wonder.

There are a lot of “churches” out there and they all teach sometimes drastically different doctrines. So I wonder, is “my” church “your” church?

Is your church the Baptist church? It was founded in the Netherlands in the early 1600’s by a man named John Smyth. It’s existence comes out of a movement to protest the Church of England and it’s corrupt policies. This makes it officially a denomination of the Anglican Church. It’s teachings are widespread across the different sub-groups, but most adhere to the ideas and teachings of John Calvin (faith-only salvation, once saved always saved, etc).

Is that your church? It’s one of the most popular in the USA so it might be.

But it’s not “my” church.

I belong to a church founded at Jerusalem fifty days after the Lord’s Resurrection (Acts 2). It was founded by His Apostles and its existence is born out of God’s eternal plan (Ephesians 3:10). It’s teachings are taken from the New Testament texts, inspired by the Holy Spirit and its organization and leadership structure is pattered after the template approved and used by the Apostles in the first century.

That’s “my” church (though technically it belongs to Christ–Matthew 16:18).

Is it “your” church?
