There is a story told of a general who wished to reward two soldiers for their labor. One solider was efficient in his work but evil in his doings, the other accomplished less but was moral in his doings. To the evil one the general gave a gold ring, and to the moral one he gave a kiss on the cheek.

The solider with the ring thought he had the better gift, but what the other lacked in riches, he gained in respect. The first solider lacked the respect of the general the way the kissed-solider did.

The moral of the story is this: Sometimes God gives evil men gold rings, but only those right in His sight are blessed with a kiss.

Don’t fret about the fortune of the faithless. Their fortune lasts only as long as this (temporary) life does. Be right with God and your reward will last throughout eternity.
