It’s nice being comfortable.

Comfortable chairs
Comfortable beds
Comfortable clothes
Comfortable jobs

It’s nice to be in a situation where you are stress free and relaxed.

Be aware, however: The Devil wants you comfortable. The Devil wants your guard down. The Devil wants you to kick your feet up, take it easy, and not think too hard about things that might make us uncomfortable.

Yesterday our Sunday morning attendance was seventy.

That’s the lowest for us since 2012. Granted, some people were out of town. Some people were sick. That happens. Some people were at home, relaxing. Sleeping. Watching TV. Visiting. Some people were fishing, golfing, hiking, loving creation more than Creator. I’m sure they felt comfortable. I’m sure they were relaxed.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

1 Peter 5:8

Peter tells us to put our guards up. He tells us to be altert and never relaxed because we have an enemy who never sleeps and is patient enough to wait until he finds the exact right moment to strike.

If you would never miss a dinner date with a friend…if you would never be late for work…if you would never hesitate to drop everything to help someone who calls you…if you would never think twice about taking a few hours to check off some honeydo’s…

but getting up and assembling with the saints and worshipping God is something you will do if you feel like, if you remember, if you have time…

You’ve got a big problem. You’re complacent.

And complacency is condemnation.
