On the fifth day of thanksgiving…I’m thankful for……

Food, clothing and shelter.

We take them for granted, but there’s a reason they are called “essentials.”

We tell our kids “eat…there are kids who aren’t going to be eating anything for dinner.” We say “be thankful you have a jacket, a lot of kids are going to be cold this winter.” We tell them “You could live in a box on the street like some people do, or you can be grateful you have a room…even if it is a little drafty.”

We say those things, but how often do we follow up with “now then, let’s say a prayer and thank God for what we have.”?

It’s almost as if we’re just glad we don’t have it as bad as others. That’s not supposed to be our attitude. It’s supposed to be that we are thankful to God for what we do have, regardless of who has more or less. I’m thankful for an almost-constantly full belly, clothes that are warm, and a house to come home to.

What are you thankful for?
