I chase rabbits.

Often I will find myself watching one YouTube video, only to stumble upon a “recommended” video after that. Ten recommended videos later and I’ve gone from “ten reasons why Batman is the best” to “six ways to tell you might have appendicitis.”

The other day, while mid-way through a rabbit-hunt, I stumbled upon this video where a musician challenged himself to teach a basic principle of music (harmony) to various levels of students. He spoke with a seven year old, a teenager, a professional musician and finally the legendary Herbie Hancock. It was a great watch, but early on into the video something happened…

You don’t have to watch the whole video, because the relevant part is at the very beginning, about twenty-seconds in.

The song he uses to demonstrate how harmony works is Amazing Grace, one of the most famous hymns in the history of Christianity, and one of the finest poems demonstrating the depths of God’s Love. And to the small child he asks “have you heard Amazing Grace before?” and the boy answers simply: “No.”

Isn’t that terribly sad?

My Lord says

but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 19:14 (ESV)

We have work to do, church. There are a LOT of people out there who don’t know Jesus.

Help them find Him.
