joshuaLittle Joshua Aaron Martin was born at 11:57am yesterday. He was 7lbs, 12oz and 20 inches long. That’s the basic info everyone asks whenever there’s a new baby and it always makes me chuckle. No matter what, people always want the name, time, weight and length.

I suppose it’s because that’s all there is to him at this point. All the boy has to distinguish him from the world around him is his name, the birth time, his height and his weight. He has no experiences to share; he’s lived no “full life of adventure” or anything of the sort. He was, literally, born yesterday. That’s it. He’s a name, a time and a measurement.

But not for long.

Before too long he’ll be “Just the other day, Joshua…” and “Oh you wouldn’t believe what Joshua did…” and “I swear that Joshua is the biggest ham, he…”

And so on.

Before too long he’ll be living up the life God has blessed him to have, and along the way he’ll make his mistakes. He’ll stumble and fall, and we’ll be right there, showing him how to pick himself back up. And when the day comes that he falls the farthest, we’ll still be there–his mom and me–and even though we won’t be able to pick him up, we will help him find the One who can…

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

John 16:33
