Here’s an idea worth exploring: God is not totally neutral; He leans toward mercy.

We deserve to go to Hell, but (through Jesus) God grants us Heaven. Because we don’t deserve something so good but we get it anyway, we call it Grace.

But have you ever considered that there is no opposite of Grace?

Now you may  be thinking “justice” or even “vengeance” are the opposite words, but not so: vengeance against sinners is justice; vengeance is deserved. Grace is when you don’t get the punishment that you do deserve.

So what do you call it when you do get a punishment that you don’t deserve?

Such a thing doesn’t exist with God.

Take a child, for example. Children are sinless and pure. A child doesn’t deserve Hell, we should all agree. Yet there is nothing in the Bible that speaks of God sending a child to Hell. The idea is beyond comprehension. A child deserves Heaven so he’ll get Heaven. That sounds strange to say but what else can you say; if a child doesn’t deserve Heaven, what does He deserve? A child is sinless, having done nothing to deserve Hell, and since there are only two potential final destinations available, we have to say a child deserves Heaven.

The point is: God never leans in an un-Gracious direction: He never sends someone to Hell who doesn’t deserve to go there, but He will send us to Heaven when we don’t deserve to go there.

That’s Grace.

That’s Amazing.
