i'll be here1Timothy 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

As a preacher (despite not being very “young” anymore) the words of this verse are thoughts that I read often. I try my best to live up to the standard Paul places here.

I want to share with you my thoughts on what this verses is telling me.

Be an example in faith. We must be reliable people. Not only should we be able to be counted on by our peers, but above all God should be able to count on us. Preachers are messengers of the Word of God. That carries a great weight of responsibility. Preachers need to be Christians that other brethren can rely on.

Be an example in purity. A Gospel preacher needs to be holy. He needs to be holy in word and deed. He needs to be holy in thought and action. His life is often the most scrutinized of all the members of a congregation. The preacher–me–must make sure, though he is not perfect, that he is pure. How do I do that? By being penitent and blameless. I can’t be perfect, but I can be forgiven!

Will you help me be an example in faith and purity? Help me to be someone you can depend on, and help me to keep myself pure in the sight of God. I promise to preach sermons that help you do that too!
